The arrival of the Severn Tidal Bore Saturday evening flowing past Berkley Nuclear Power Station seen from Lydney Docks.
Berkley Power station was built in 1956 and was one of the first Nuclear Power Stations to be decommissioned in 1988. Fuel was removed from the site in 1992. Structures were demolished and the cooling pond was removed in 2001. The power station stands beside the River Severn near the mouth of the estuary just north of the Severn Bridge. In 1607 England experienced a great flood that killed several thousand people. Flood waters stretched across the south of the country. Damage was reported as far north as Gloucester. Then as now communities were lost and never recovered but with Japan’s spirit and the world’s support I am sure in time the land of the rising sun will shine bright again.
