Severn Bore Spring Tide Wave Sequence passing Elmore Back 12.03.12
In this sequence of pictures the Severn Bore is approaching Minsterworth Church with Elmore Back on the other side of the river. I have tried to show how the wave pushes its way up the river Severn against the natural water flow, moving around as it travels, driving into the banks when the river twists and turns seeming to bend and buckle. Although this Bore was rated as a 2 star Bore you can see that it has sufficient power and volume to bring water levels up significantly, so its always best to be aware of the dangers when watching the Severn Bore. Today I was also surprised by the speed it was traveling, although it was nearly an hour late on its predicted time of arrival. From picture No.1 to picture No.10 it took approx 60 seconds when looking back at the times on the picture files ! That really surprised me to be honest as it felt like it took several minutes when taking in so much visual information. Through the viewfinder it often feels like visual overload watching how the water is moving with reflections suddenly emerging and making slight camera adjustments all at the same time. I try hard to use both eyes independently, keeping both open with my left eye on peripheral information whist keeping the right eye focused on what’s happening through the viewfinder. As I have a short sighted right eye and a long sighted left eye it does help a bit. I took around 50 shots in this sequence discarding some along with missing a few.
