Abingdon Motorsport 'Car-nival' 11.06.11 ' Brabham BT 21 Ian Ritchie '

Whilst the world’s fastest cars battle it out at the Le Mans 24 hour event, in its 15th year, Abingdon Motorsport ‘Car-nival’ showed club level motorsport was alive and well. Route to motor sport could not be easier with the now new formula ‘Auto Solo’, mum can I borrow the car for the afternoon approach, when all you need is your local motor club licence, a road worthy car and off you go. Sprint events proved to be exciting with all sorts of cars from a Group B World Rally Ford RS 200 attending alongside an even older Brabham BT21, wow, that takes me back. Those Westfield’s do go quick  as well don’t they. On the way out under a darkening sky after racing had finished, I stopped to have a chat to a lad by the name of Tom Arnold who showed me his Spire car, similar to a Radical. It really did look the part, more Le Mans style racing car but powered by a Kawasaki engine. At 600 kilo with 170bhp behind you, fast is the only word that comes to mind, it reminded me of  that F1 symphonic cry we get to hear each time the Grand Prix is on the box.
